We use very fine needles, which are sterilized and are used
only once. When the needles are inserted there is little if
any discomfort. Once inserted, the patient may feel numbness,
distension or other sensations. Most patients experience a
calm and relaxing sensation after the needles are inserted
into the skin.
Most treatments consist of using around 8-15 needles depending
on what the condition is. The weaker the patient usually the
less the number of needles are required.
In the course of diagnosis, your practitioner will ask you
many questions. Some areas include eating and sleeping, pain,
thirst, digestion and sense of temperature. Other important
aspects of Chinese diagnosis include inspection to the tongue
and the palpation of pulses and special points on the back
and the front of the trunk. Patients normally receive a treatment
on the first visit. Sterile procedure is followed at all times.
Needles are disposable and are for one-time-use only. Please
discuss any concerns you may have with your practitioner.
No, but acupuncture is covered by most extended medical plans,
ICBC, WCB, and Veteran’s Affairs. Check your plan to
see how much they cover.
Depending upon what the condition or disease is affecting
the body depends upon the number of treatments. Most courses
of treatments require 4-6 treatments if the condition is acute.
5-10 treatments may be required if the disease is chronic
with tune-up treatments once a month or every couple of weeks.
